In Pennsylvania, a license is required for unarmed security guards. The process is rather detailed. An applicant or hiring company must petition the court for the license. The County Clerk’s office is limited to the questions they can answer about this process and recommends that an attorney be retained for such matters.

Basic requirements to submit petition for unarmed security guards in Pennsylvania:

Must file a petition with the following attachments:

• Passport photos (2)
• Letters from character witnesses pointing out your good moral character
• Certified proof of criminal background check
• Fingerprint card with fee (this card must be submitted to the County Clerk’s office with a money order that will be mailed to the Pennsylvania State police)

Security Guard Training in Oklahoma

In Oklahoma, an unarmed security guard must be licensed. This license is administered by CLEET and is renewal every two years. Training and application requirements must be met before a license is issued.

Basic requirements for unarmed security guards in Oklahoma:

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must show proof of citizenship
• Mentally competent
• Have good moral Character
• Police or Sheriff record check
• Insurance letter from employer or surety bond
• No drug or alcohol use or dependence

In the state of Ohio, unarmed security guards are required to registered but not licensed if guard is an employee of a licensed security company. It is the responsibility of the licensed company to ensure that all employees are registered within seven business days of hire. Registration renewal required annually. The basic requirements that may be required from the hiring company is as follows:

In North Carolina, unarmed security guards are required to be licensed/registered. Certain basic criteria must be met first before applying.

Basic requirements for an unarmed security guard in North Carolina:

• Must be at least 18 years old
• United States citizen or resident alien

• Submit (2) recent passport type photo (one inch by one inch)

Security Guard Training in New Mexico

In New Mexico, unarmed security guards are required to be licensed/registered. There are three levels of registration; level one, two or three. The same criteria must be met on all levels except for level three, which requires more hours of training.

Basic requirements for an unarmed security guard in New Mexico (All Levels):

• Must be at least 18 years old (age 21 for level 3)
• United States resident
• High school diploma or equivalent (Level 2 and 3)

Level 2: In addition to level one requirements, 24 additional hours of training in the following must be completed within 12 months before applying for registration.

1. Use of force – three (3) hours
2. Self defense weapons and techniques – eight (8) hours
3. Side handle batons – four (4) hours
4. Handcuffing – four (4) hours
5. Use of tasers – five (5) hours

Level 3: In addition to levels 1 and 2 requirements, 24 additional hours of training in the following must be completed within 12 months before applying for registration.

1. Fire protection and life safety – four (4) hours
2. Threat assessment – two (2) hours
3. Safety awareness – one (1) hours
4. Environment/hazardous materials – four (4) hours
5. Firearms training – twenty four (24) hours

Security Guard Training in New Hampshire

In New Hampshire, an unarmed security guard can fall under different rules. For example, if you hired by a company and are on their payroll, there are no criteria for you to meet. However, if you decide to work for yourself and solicit business as a sole proprietor you do have to meet certain criteria.

Basic requirements for an unarmed security guard in New Hampshire:

• Must be at least 18 years old
• United States resident
• No felony convictions or misdemeanors associated with violence (which includes domestic), drugs ( use or sale), theft or fraud
• Provide three references to vouch for your good character
